This large portrait of a hare standing erect was one of a series of painting based on 18th century French and English portraits by Boucher and Gainsborough, Designed to make their subjects appear larger than life and removed from the common, they've always struck me as ostentatious. I wondered how it would feel if the style were applied to animals that stand on two legs looking directly down at us, challenging our place and way of thinking.
